Cologne Cathedral, at the end of World War 2

The Cathedral is a World Heritage Site on which construction began in 1248. It was finally completed only in the nineteenth century and then sustained damage from aerial bombs during World War 2. The structure did not collapse, however, although it was 1956 before repair works were finished.
